Sigmund von Birken (1626-1681): Morphologie seines Werkes
Hermann StaufferHardly any other 17th century German writer produced such an extensive and multi-faceted oeuvre as the Nuremberg author Sigmund von Birken (1626–1681). This morphology of his works is the first to provide a complete register of Birken's writings. After a biographical overview, it first discusses issues centring on methodology and the history of the way the works have come down to us. In the form of an annotated bibliography, the morphology relates all the printed versions to the extant manuscripts and Birken's letters. Light is thus cast on the connections between the works, on literary forms and constellations of figures.
